No hitting!

cloud glasses
I've just read my 5th story in a row where the bottom boy gets randomly smacked in the ass. Not BDSM stories or anything...two characters are going at it, dude on top hauls off and starts slapping other guy's ass.

That's...not sexy to me. Unless I'm actively in a scene, I don't want to be hit, and would be really pissed if someone thought it was cute or funny to start smacking me around mid stroke.

Why is spanking so popular in m/m romance, do you think?

new rule: authors have GOT to find another source of sinspiration that doesn't include Sean Cody or Falcon.

It's kinda weird for me too. Maybe because I have to be in a certain mindset to like the slap and tickle, lol

going to have to do a poll soon on how many authors are lifting entire sex scenes from their fave porn DVD, lol.

Guilty -- kinda, not whole scenes...but I usually use PornTube or X-Tube amature and leave out the gratutous butt smacks and oh-babys

I've only seen it done when the bottom indicated previously that he'd like it, or at least wouldn't mind.

Did any of these under-dudes protest?

Don't have an answer, except that maybe some writers find men's butts spankable and are inserting their own fantasies into the narrative.

Ass slapping is a HUGE turn off for the straight female reader like me.

unless I'm reading a BDSM type story where I expect something of the sort, I find it *very* off-putting.

Porn.

But you'd think people would get the clue that, yanno, porn is...porn.

Go fig?

that's my thing...porn is fantasy. to a large extent, so is fiction. but does fiction, and romance by extension, have to be pornographic? fyi, if you write het, I don't want to read about women getting smacked in the face with some dude's meat, taking money shots in the eyes, or squirting random juices all over the place either, since those scenes are prevalent in porn as well. *urps*

Nope which walks you right into the erotic vs pornographic area that m/m seems to live in.

Erotic romance or its more blatant sister, erotica, is supposed to be sexy.

Porn isn't sexy. Really, it's not. It's a visual stroke off that appeals to the more primal parts of the brain. I also agree with Tis down there *points* Doing more physical things in an m/m to supposedly make them more "manly".

One of these days, people are gonna get that it's just freakin' sex. Ta da.

I always assumed it was #1- porn-inspired... but also, #2- an effort, whether good or bad, to insert something (no pun intended) that rarely if ever would be thought "acceptable" in m/f books. Sort of like "see, he's slapping the other guy's ass and he's not complaining really, so they're definitely guys".

I could be totally wrong about that, of course. Wouldn't be the first time.

Honestly, I haven't noticed it in most of the books I've read, so I suppose I don't have any feelings about it, one way or the other. LOL

I want my slashy heroes to act like men, not women, but they don't have to smack each other around to prove their manliness either, lol.

I had noticed it, but not so much as lately when I've been trying to get rid of my TBR pile. Thows me off every time.

Also, I sort of think of the ass-slapping as the more well-behaved bastard stepchild of the whole "two guys beat the fuck out of each other in an alley (or wherever) then end up having angry, heated sex that's so good they have to admit they're in LOOOOOOVE" thing. Okay, interesting to read once or twice, but after that?

Honestly, that annoys me far more than ass-slapping, out of the blue or not, ever would, I think.

Seriously, if I got in a knock-down, drag-out fist fight with someone-- no matter how attractive they might be-- I'd be more likely to kick them while they were down then walk away, rather than kiss them hard, get naked and ride them like a pony while grunting something to the effect of "God, I love you, you fucking piece of shit bastard!". But that's just me. *shrugs*

I don't mind back alley throw-em-up-against-a-wall-and-go-for-it. Laura Baumbach did it quite well in one of my fave books by her.

Dunno. I like a good hate sex scene *g*

Meh. I guess my issue is that I don't see the correlation between hating someone so much that you're beating them bloody one minute, then declaring undying love a short time later, after or during an angry fuck-fest. It strikes me as a little schizo.

Yes, I know. Anger is usually covering the attraction/affection/whatever, but it still bugs me.

Now, going for it against a brick wall is a whole other kettle of monkeys, barrel of fish, etc. :P And I have a couple I love of hers, as well.

I'm just saying. For me personally? Fist-in-face and "I love you" aren't really connected. *shrugs*

I'm weird like that. :P

for me either, which is what throws me off about random spanking. I have trouble with the more extreme punch face even in BDSM. Anah's UNEVEN was hard for me to read, because it's just not my kink.

Hunh
I uh...have noticed in my random encounters over the years that about 50% of various partners have liked to engage in smacking/spanking of ass when in doggy style position. Sometimes they grab a handful and start smacking away when they are riding their hormones.

*scratches head* Now that I think about it, I know lots of guys who engage in that behavior. Hmm. Must go ponder.
